Recorded silence: the cell that says nothing was published

Recorded silence is what this register writes when a page was read on a point and said nothing. It is not the same as an unfilled cell, and keeping the two apart is most of what makes the rest of the record checkable. As of 2026-09-12.

Inclusion rule. Entries where a specific vendor page was read for a specific point and the point was not addressed. Points nobody was ever going to publish are not listed. Order. Alphabetical by generator name.

1Three things look the same in a table and are not

A cell can be blank because nobody has filled it in. It can be blank because the point does not apply to that entry. Or it can be blank because somebody read the page, looked for the point, and did not find it. Only the third is evidence, and it is the only one this record writes as a sentence.

The distinction has a cost: writing silence out takes a phrase where a blank takes nothing, and a table full of such phrases reads less cleanly. The alternative is worse. A reader relying on a blank cell has no way to know whether the vendor is quiet or the register is incomplete.

2Silence in a licence is a different kind of silence

Most cells here record a marketing or support page that had no reason to raise a point. One records something else: terms attached to published model weights, read for any obligation on whoever runs those weights to mark what comes out, with nothing found. A permissive licence is silent by design rather than by omission.

That silence travels further than the others. A hosted interface can add a parameter tomorrow and every caller inherits it. Weights already downloaded inherit nothing, and whoever is generating with them is the party a provider duty would have to reach.

3What a recorded silence does not license anyone to say

None of these cells says a product is unmarked. A vendor may well write a manifest into every container and never mention it on a pricing page, and an undocumented mark is a real mark. What it is not is usable: nobody can cite it, plan around it, or show it to a client who is asking.

So the cell records a gap in the published record and stops there. Closing the gap is an inspection job rather than a reading job, and it belongs to whoever holds the delivered file rather than to a register of what vendors have written down.
