Which tools add nothing unless a request asks

Two entries put marking behind a parameter documented as optional with a false default. A team that never read that documentation has decided what every file in a season carries, without knowing a decision existed. As of 2026-09-12.

1A capability is not a behaviour

A parameter that can add a label makes disclosure possible and performs none of it. Whether a file carries one depends on the call that produced it, so no claim about a library of clips follows from the existence of the flag.

2Two references agreeing is a finding, not a comparison

These two are not filed as a pair, because a page reporting that two vendors do the same thing has nothing else to report. The agreement is still informative on its own: off by default looks like the norm for programmatic video.

What differs between them is everything downstream. One states the wording and the corner of the mark it adds; the other names only a category. One also publishes its weights, which puts a second population outside any flag.

3The person who decided may be the one nobody consulted

An account setting is chosen by somebody with a budget. A request parameter is chosen by whoever built the integration, often months before a first delivery and usually without the question being raised at all.

Neither of those is the publisher, and the disclosure duty lands on the publisher. This is the shortest demonstration in the record that a lever and an obligation can sit at different desks.
