Firefly and ElevenLabs on where in a file the mark lives
Both entries answer the marking column, and they answer it with different physics. One puts a record next to the content; the other hides a signal inside it, and the two break under opposite handling. As of 2026-09-22.

Inclusion rule. Two entries whose published answers to one column pull in different directions. Cells hold each vendor's own wording from the page its entry names; pairs that agree on the column are not filed at all. Order. Fixed order, and the two columns are in the order the heading gives them.
1Beside the content, or inside it
A manifest changes nothing about the picture or the sound, which is why it can be signed and why it can hold a chain of claims. It is also why anything that rewrites the file can discard it without a trace.
An embedded signal alters the content slightly so a detector can recover it later. It survives operations that discard metadata entirely, and it carries far less, and reading it is a measurement rather than a lookup.
2The medium decides which one is available
Audio has no corner for a notice and no obvious place for a visible layer, so the practical choice is a container record or a hidden signal. Images and video have all three options and most entries here use only one.
That is why this pair is not a ranking. Each entry chose the mechanism its medium makes sensible, and the useful comparison is what each one loses rather than which is stronger.
3Both leave the viewer with nothing
Neither entry describes anything a person can perceive. Both disclosure rows record that the point is not addressed, which is the ordinary shape for entries whose marking answer is a signal rather than a notice.
For a publisher that means the same thing in both cases: whatever a viewer is to be told has to be arranged by the publication, because the file will not tell them anything on its own.
