What survives: the row recording durability

What survives is the row recording durability as each entry states it. The cells do not describe one property: some say what an edit cannot destroy, one says what a customer cannot undo, and one records that nothing was published. As of 2026-09-12.

Inclusion rule. Entries whose pages address whether a mark persists, in either sense of the word. An entry silent on persistence carries no row rather than an empty one. Order. Alphabetical by generator name.

1Two senses of the same word sit in one column

Durability can mean that a signal is still detectable after the file has been through somebody else's pipeline. It can also mean that a mark, once applied, cannot be lifted by the person who applied it. Both are statements about persistence and they are answers to opposite questions.

The first is what a platform or a detector cares about. The second is what a production cares about on the afternoon it discovers a deliverable went out with a test flag set. The record keeps both cells under one row name and says which sense each one uses, because renaming the row per entry would hide that they collide.

2An embedded signal and an attached manifest fail differently

A signal mixed into the picture or the audio survives anything that keeps the content and rewrites the container, which is most of what a hosting platform does on upload. It degrades under heavy compression and cropping, and reading it is a probabilistic measurement rather than a lookup.

A manifest riding beside the pixels is the opposite. When it arrives it carries far more than one bit, signed and checkable, and anything that rebuilds the container without copying it drops the whole record silently. Neither mechanism is the durable one; they are durable against different handling, which is why several entries in this record describe both.

3The empty cell is about what was published, not about the product

One cell here records that a page describing a manifest says nothing about what keeps it or loses it. That is a gap in the documentation and not a claim that the manifest is fragile, and this record does not convert one into the other.

For a reader the consequence is concrete: durability cannot be looked up for that entry and has to be established on the delivery route in use. Doing that once per route is usually enough, because the route rather than the file is what decides the outcome, and routes change rarely.
