SynthID on a mark added at the moment of generation
This is the entry that speaks to the marking paragraph in the paragraph's own vocabulary: a signal inside the content, added at generation, with stated resistance to ordinary handling. One of the four qualities is missing, and it is the hard one. As of 2026-09-12.
| Point | What the record holds |
|---|---|
| Article 50(2), machine-readable marking | An invisible watermark embedded across a family of consumer products |
| Read from | A research and product page, not a plan table |
| What it does not settle | Interoperability, which no single vendor's scheme can supply on its own |
Inclusion rule. One cell of this generator's entry, quoted from the page the entry names. Coverage, commentary and third-hand summaries are not admitted, in either direction. Order. Fixed order: the cell, the page it came off, then the limit on reading it.
1Three qualities a vendor can engineer, one it cannot
The paragraph asks for solutions that are effective, interoperable, robust and reliable as far as is technically feasible. Effectiveness, robustness and reliability are properties of a system, and a well-resourced team can build them and measure them without anybody else's cooperation.
Interoperability is not like that. A mark is interoperable when somebody other than its author can read it, which makes it a property of an ecosystem. Nothing published about this scheme claims that property, and reading an unclaimed one into it is precisely the inference this register exists to avoid.
2Added at creation, not at export
Where in a pipeline a mark is applied decides what it covers. Applied at export it covers whatever the export path touches. Applied as the content is generated it covers everything the generator produces, including material that never reaches an export dialogue at all.
The phrase on the page is the moment content is created, which is the earlier of the two. For a duty addressed to whoever builds the system rather than to whoever publishes with it, that is the right place for the work to happen.
3An invisible mark answers a different reader than a logo does
Nothing in this entry describes a notice a viewer can perceive, and the entry's disclosure row says so rather than borrowing an answer from the marking row. Those are separate obligations addressed to separate parties, and a scheme can satisfy one while being silent on the other.
For a production that reads as follows: the tool may be doing the provider's half of the work, and the publisher's half is still the publisher's. Nothing recorded here moves that line, and no vendor sentence in this register moves it either.
