1On by default moves the mistake to the other side

The second is noticed immediately, because somebody looks at the picture. The first is noticed months later by whoever is asked a question, which is the harder failure to recover from.

2A default plus a switch is two facts, not one

The default describes what happens without a decision. The switch describes who can make one. This entry is the only one in the record that states both, and the two are kept on separate rows for that reason.

Read together they describe an arrangement where marking is the norm and the exception is available. That is a product design and it is not a statement about any obligation, which the guide itself does not claim.

3What the timing paragraph asks of a default

The information has to be given clearly and distinguishably at the latest at the first exposure. A notice already in the picture cannot be late, which is a modest but real advantage over anything applied afterwards.

It is also the reason the compositing stage matters here. The default applies where the deliverable is made, so the file that reaches an audience is the file the default governed.
